Tired of Being an Old Martha?

"As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me! 'Martha, Martha,' the Lord answered, 'you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.'"

Martha is oftentimes the sister that I can most relate to. (And that is not something to be proud of!) Martha was busy. Just picture Martha for a minute: She is running around the kitchen trying to prepare a meal, running around the house trying to be a good hostess to Jesus and the disciples, and resenting Mary the whole time! Mary, on the other hand, is parked right in front of Jesus soaking up every word that he said to the group that was gathered there. Martha was trying to serve Jesus with her busy works when all Jesus wanted was for her to serve him with her heart like Mary was doing.

These verses are great to remember when you get so busy that you lose the focus of Christ in your life. Nobody wants to be like Martha, but we have to remind ourselves that from time to time.

Have a happy Tuesday!
