Wonderful Witnesses!

"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Acts 1:8

In this verse Jesus is speaking to his disciples right before he is taken up into heaven. Jesus is telling his disciples and all of us to be his witnesses here on earth so that others may come to know Him and experience His forgiveness and salvation.
Yesterday I was telling you about a book I have been reading. The book was set in Massachusetts in the early 1800s. The man who did not have salvation and did not understand prayer was a very good man in the community and was doing good works for other people. One of his good works was serving as a safe house for runaway slaves along the Underground Railroad. The woman helping him with the female runaways had been trying to witness to him. He wasn't convinced until two runaway slaves were in his home facing the possibility of recapture that he realized they had so much joy despite their horrific circumstances. These former slaves witnessed about Jesus' love and salvation to him and He invited Jesus into his life.
He realized that no matter how many good works he did his life was not fulfilled until he asked Jesus into his heart. Needless to say, he and the woman got married and continued helping runaway slaves find their way into Canada.

Great book, even better message!
